What's up RIU!

Strain- 2 kush strains 1 chocolope and the rest some good bag seeds.
Lights- 400 watt mh/Hps
Medium- foxfarm planting mix
Nutrients- foxfarm trio line. Big bloom grow big and Tiger bloom. And foxfarm open sesame.
Light schedule- 24/7 Seedling stage. 18/6 Veg stage. And 11/13 during flowering stage.

As I'm still waiting for my grow tent and inline fan to come in, this will have to do for now.
So Enjoy and like and comment. I'll appreciate any kind of help.

I have a question. Can I use the big bloom for the seedlings to speed up the root growth? It says on the chart I can feed the seedlings but I want to know what you growers think.

Update for today Jan 31

I wouldn't feed them anything at this stage, especially in FF soils which are usually hot enough for sprouts. Also root stimulants are a way better choice for enhancing root development than Big Bloom!

And don't forget:

Don't spray your seedlings under HID! It will burn them pretty bad and they will die! Also it can slow down root development and cause them to damp off! Always keep your seedlings (leaves and stem) dry and clean.

Thanks for the tip mate.
I've been spraying them constantly to keep the humidity up but I guess that has to stop.
What kind of root stimulants do you recommend?

I think the best one you can get your hands on is H&G Roots Excelurator. It's a little pricy, but really worth the result. Very powerful.
And I have my ballast to 50 percent. can I blast these little ones with the full 400 right now?
I have my seedlings under 400w MH about two feets away. After about 5 days, I slowly bring my light closer.

I'm not to concerned about price. I don't mind spending the money if it's really gonna help my garden. I'm gonna look some of that up today.

Does is make a difference though in growth with the seedlings? 50 percent of power and 100 percent power?

For the first 2 or 3 days, not really. But proper lighting prevents stretching, weak stems, drooping leaves and many other symptoms which seedlings are usually dealing with. If using a 400w MH or HPS at 50%, 14" is an optimum distance between your light and tops of your seedlings IMO.

Thanks mate. I just turned it up to 100 percent today. Thanks for letting me know about the stretching part. I wasn't really thinking about that. I want those tight nodes.

And also another question. Would it be better to grow 2-4 bigger plants or just grow these short about a foot and a half then flower?
I'm not to good with pre planning height

It's really up to you, but bigger is not necessarily better. Chocolope can be stretchy as hell, so maybe you want to flip it as soon as it establishes a root system. But for kush varieties, it's better to veg them for at least a month.

So a couple things,

You can run your light on full with those plants but there is no point as their ability to photosynthesize is largely determined by the size of their leaves. Which seedling do not have much surface area there. Which is why you see a lot of growers with clones and seedlings under ~20-100 watts of t5 or small cfls.

Do not feed plants that small in soil that comes with nutrients in it. Wait for another couple sets of leaves. You will hurt them.

You only need to mist them once or twice a day, not "constantly" and really that is only if you think your root growth is lagging because seeds to not need to me misted, clones sometimes do. Really just depends on your setup. But spraying plants will mostly just cause foliar growth to slow and put the plant into essentially hibernation mode and focus its energy on the roots.

If you want to run your ballast less than 100%, get a smaller bulb to accommodate the drop in power. When you run bulbs under their capacity you ruin the intended spectrum and the lifetime of your bulbs.

Thanks for the info. Didn't really know about burning out a spectrum running it at a lower power.
I have stopped misting and just started pouring water into the water catcher.

And don't forget:
If you look at the Big Bloom bottle, you will see that it's virtually absent of NPK nutrients.
It's basically mycorrizae which aids the plant in development of its root network.
So feel free to add some.
Root stimulants could work too, but you're adding powerful enzymes to your growing medium whose effects on smoke safety haven't been fully evaluated.

That's exactly what I was thinking. But I wanted to get advise before I acted on it. And members said not to add fert.

I'll do a test run on 2 seedlings first and see how they react.

That's because Big Bloom contains mostly EWC, Kelp extract and other organic fertilizers which actually won't deliver that much of NPK and there is no need to add more of them here, because FFPM has plenty!

Question.
Is it better to grow 2-3 big plants or should I just run 11 1-2ft tall plants?
I want to know what you veterans think
