Is the NRA right?

Wow, " I really feel safer owning my gun. I carry with me all the time, but not at home, there I will leave it on the table by the door. I am already surrounded by thieves and murderers and rapists, and now I have to deal with those filthy Aaarabs", ( a quote from the NRA rag last year, maybe)

You know what, thinking about it over the last 2 day's, I came to the conclusion she might be right.
I own guns, and I like them. I hunt, and like target shooting and I collect. I own 2 handguns, which I never carry outside my home unless to the range, but that might change.

I live 50 miles outside of NYC, and only go down there for plays and concerts, but it makes me think, maybe Texas has it right, that if we were all armed, there wouldn't be any crime. I will carry next time in NYC, and just leave it in my car when going past detectors, and I will feel better having it, definitely.

Man, it makes me fuckin sad and nauseous to think shit has gotten this bad, that the NRA has another excuse to arm everyone in the nation to protect us from outside influences, but they actually might be right, and that is scary.

Their sure as hell ain't LEFT

America where you can legally grow weed in several states but can't posses a fire arm in same house. People get cases dropped for growing but get screwed for owning a gun while growing… it's a fuckery the NRA ain't helping to eliminate

What has changed? Anytime a gun nut goes crazy or a terrorist does something it's just an excuse for NRA to say "told ya so" but that's a fuckity fuck fuck right there. I mean lets look at Texas… owning firearms didn't stop the Waco debacle…. owning firearms didn't stop the UT clock tower shootings (played by Kurt Russell in the movie)… Owning firearms didn't prevent the Waco biker bar incident of recent notoriety (it's actually what caused the chaos to escalate)… I don't see the NRA using that one for their endorsement.

I love guns, learned to shoot em just an hour north of the Texas border so my roots are down there. That said there is a strange feeling I get when I go out shooting back home with certain people, I'll fire a gun and smile or give a "fuck yea" but other people get a crazed enjoyment, it's hard to explain you just have to see it and it honestly makes me uneasy sometimes. These are the people I worry about, these are the ones that openly say shoot first than ask questions. I realize in the face of adversary they may cower and ball up like a child, but if even 10% of those fuckers are for real I don't feel safe knowing their packing a gun at the Kwik E Mart.

Because if you didn't, your argument would look silly. Why no cause for concern on the amount of deaths directly attributed to vehicles? Why is it always ideology that clouds common sense?
That's a bad analogy, vehicles have many different purposes, not to mention there is plenty of concern for the amount of auto accident deaths, that's why you have to wear a seatbelt and why cars aren't made out of sheet metal anymore

Never said there was such. All I can say is that it gets old to hear the same old bs About gun control when murders committed by guns, have steadily dropped since the peaks 89-95.
How is it a BS argument? The argument you're supporting from the NRA is that more guns prevents crime. If that was the case, why do other countries with less guns have less crime per capita than the US who has more guns?

I don't believe people with mental illness should be allowed to own or operate a gun, that seems absolutely irresponsible to me
I completely agree. However, gun violence has been declining since the peak in the early 90s. A call for gun control is just political posturing meant to rally the base opposed to the NRA. Let facts be facts.

Did you not once say that (paraphrase)some freedoms must be infringed upon for the collective good?

Looks like it's been rising since '00

A call for gun control is a result of all of the mass shootings we've had in recent history, it has nothing to do with politics. Most responsible gun owners favor common sense gun control legislation including what we were just talking about with keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill

Well, I think you're using the example I gave Rob, I don't believe he has the "right" to punch someone in the face, so when living in a civil society, he has to give up that "right" in order to live in a civil way. I'm not sure how gun control legislation ties into that?

To be clear, I do support your right to own a gun, I just believe there is a better way to ensure sane people use them and crazy people don't because what we're doing now - the all freedom goes - approach isn't working and it's resulting in the needless deaths of many innocent people

Have you ever read about the shooting that made Australia revise their gun laws?

My apologies then, I think we stand on the same side then. We both believe it is a right to bare arms as long as you pass basic background checks such as mental illness and felony convictions.
