Power outage

So two of my tents had lights on last night when the power went out. It was a real quick outage, it may have lasted 5-10 seconds max. both the those tents are in flowering. One plant was just started last week and the other has over a month of 12/12 and a few more plants inbetween. Is that enough to make them hermie?

no, but it's hard on your light bulb to go on/off in such a short timeframe (assuming you are using HPS/MH)

Great thanks! I am running hps but i switch out the bulb every time i start a new cycle of flower anyway.

if you get power outages often, you can buy these delayed timers, so if the power goes out, the timer will remain off for 20-30 minutes to allow the bulb to cool down

I wouldn't bother with the generator unless your power outages are frequent and lengthy....it's not disruptive on the plant if power outages occur occasionally

Depends on where you live really as to the generator. Having lived in the mountains of Colorado, Montana, Washington and Alaska they sound great to me.

Op I've got a ballast that has a 15 minute safety delay, could be something to look for in the future. Those timers sound like the ticket for now though. The 20-30 minute delay ISK mentioned sounds better to me too.

My electric has been finicky since I've been here, and it happens all the time to me, unfortunately lol

Well where im at now its been storming alot on and off and thats the second time this month the powers gone out. I rather spend the few hundred and be safe.

Should be fine, same thing happened to me except unplugged my socket while it was turned on, it killed my ballast, had no light for 2 days. If the genetics are bad it would of hermied regardless.

No. You'll be fine. As isk said, it's prob harder on the light than your plants

If you're in an climate area where you get feezing temps in the winter a generator can save your grow. If you're not in a cold climate like that you can get by with some Coleman lanturns for light and heat when the power goes off during flowering. Half a dozen led flashlights will also help out in a blackout.

Yeah where I'm at its not uncommon for winter temps to get well below freezing. Usually into negatives actually. So I'm thinking this winter I may pick up a generator just in case! Thanks for the tips!

I have been using the same MH 600w bulb for 4 straight harvests. Over a year. My yeilds have continued to increase for other reasons (one joy of newbery) so I figured to try and get as close as possible to those 10000 hours they promised me.

that's pretty great. Do you use the MH all the way through flower? What kind of bulb is it?
I use some cheapo bulbs so its no huge deal to me
