I went round and round with this a bit at first.
If you put them in a jar too wet you will end up with harsh bobby brown
I have a mega humidity problem where I am (right by ocean) so my approach is to use a dehumidifier in a closet with my branches hung on coat hangers.
What I do is when I take down the plants give them kind of a pre-trim, remove anything that doesn't have frost on it.
Then dry for approx. 4 days at 55% (debatably too low?), then put the final trim on things.
I usually leave the nugs in these big ass net pots that I have overnight in the same drying closet just to kinda let things even out moisture wise where they were cut from the stems.
I can tell you at that point the smoke is at the level that the club wants it the next day

You could jar and cure from there if that is what you are after.
I will say the harshest herb I have come across was some Platinum Cookies that was "Organic"
I grow in Hydro with commercial mineral salt nutrients and everyone compliments on how smooth my product is.
Maybe try another strain?
