The half life is why we switched...he kept barfing up his dilaudid.Methadone can be a nightmare. Don't even think about starting it unless you plan on taking it the rest of your life. It's half life is so long that it builds up in your system, especially when your stacking doses. After it builds up a lot of people start experiencing very uncomfortable side effects. If you ever want to get it off it, it can a year or more. It's a pretty nasty med IMO. I'd try my best to stay away from it.
I think the low dose methadone is way better than daily dilaudid....just from our own experience.
