Upgrading Lights

600 watt bulbs definitely arent cheaper than 400s. My hortilux and smax bulbs run around 90 on the 600. But i agree that he should grab a 600 not 400 for a 3x3. 400 to 600 jump is a big one yieldwise. Also my 600 magnetic seems to run cooler than my 400 watt digital.

Hortilux from my research is one of THE BEST, all of that stuff is expensive lol.

Are you sure they are equivs? If you spent that much I'm assuming they aren't just 26w'ers?

I bought three 4-packs of 26w lights from Home Depot for $10 each. With chords and adapters I spent like $45 on 300w, and that includes the timer...

120g every six weeks...
I bought lol reflectors with them. Each light was 9 a piece n reflectors like 5 I think not sure but than I bought the 2700 bulbs later so close to 100 after the extra accessories like cords but.. how many plants u grow n many grams u get

You will for sure need air coming through with HPS, thats one reason i chose CFL's also, i dont have the air flow capability right now.
Here is a review though for Apollo bulbs:

6-7 plants per rotation... (start with 8 clones, pick the best 6... 7 if I can't choose)
15g-20g per plant
6 week rotation

Yea 300 watts plus a 50 watt LED. I dont know the actual difference in the bill, i dont pay it, i rent a room everything included lol. But you can go to your local power company website and calculate it. The guy that owns the house has not said anything, so it cant be too much. I know one dude said there is no difference in lighting bills between CFL and HID bulbs, but im not too sure about that.....

Yep. 300watts is 300watts. Unless you have a seriously inefficient ballast.

Not sure on that one. This is my first grow with them. According to the company they last "up to 10 times as long as incandescent bulbs", but who knows if thats just marketing or not. I've had them on 20/4 light schedule, for months, and they seem to still be going strong.

Yea that's good. As long you don't see them to start losing there brightness. My cfls do

CFLs are just becoming annoying to move around daily. and from what ive read its better to use multiple smaller wattage bulbs then using those big moster 100+w CFLs. more footprint coverage.

Well i think im going to go with the hps with cool tube for now. possibly the aircooled hood.

Would i be okay pushing air thru the cool tube? this would save me the most space up top if i am able to.

Filter > Inline Fan > Cooltube > exit out of tent

the way mine are setup in hood i cant turn. plants keep moving contatantly and burning themselves so being that i pretty much have 400w of cfl id rather just deal with 1 bulb.

Thats with a reflector, but its a cheap one, if your just starting out like me, and dont have a lot of money to dump into it, i think its decent. Im not too sure about the watt equivalent, but the 250w Apollo CFL gives off about 11,000 lumens, if im not mistaken. To me its better to just buy a REAL CFL thats made for growing, instead of rigging a light system together, with household CFL's. You might find that thats what you wanna do though, i just like these better. The best thing for you to do is search YouTube and the net for reviews and stuff, see what people say about them, and decide off that. But like i said before IF you have the money to go MH/HPS thats a given, get that. But a good HPS bulb can easily cost $50+ also.
23 watt cfl's from "around the house" put out 1600 lumens

1600*8 = 12800 = where ever you light is needed
1* 11,000= 2x2 foot print

12* 1600= 19200 lumens

With some smarts you can place the smaller bulbs all around your plant or build a light box or in my case buy a plastic tub from walmart cut some holes for the socket and bulb to meet through and you have a 2x4 foot print high out put cfl lamp. Single source lights are out dated and over rated for small grows.

2 250w would put out 22,100 lumens of GOOD light, household CFL's are not made for growing, and if you place your lights right you'll cover it. Thats why you every time you see a household CFL grow the buds are like half gram buds, i dunno about you guys but 10 grams a plant is a fuckin waste of time.

I agree, you will never get the yield from CFLs that you will from HID...

But I run a 300w CFL tent with $30 in lights and I get close to 20g per plant; I run OG Kush, which is a light yielder anyways.

I wouldn't say me yielding a QP every 6 weeks is a waste of time. Granted, like I said, I know quite well I will be harvesting more when I get my HID... but to say it's a waste of time? Nah...

People use what they have access to...

Yea i guess, the point im trying to make is the big CFL's are T5's, they are just curled around and not straight and long, and i think you get better output from them.
