Not BS and a good question! Only tried to supply a legit answer......Tend to get huffy when "attacked" and sorry now, to have shot back. We all have a weakness .

I still believe 70 days will have better results,,all around (Everything I run longer then breeders reports is picked by my patients first and I tend to listen to my patients!).....BUT,,,do what YOU need to do....The point is that if it works for you,,,,,then it works!

No worries, I wrote and erased many sarcastic/spiteful responses to several of the posts on this thread (after learning something of value from each person who posted) before just letting it be and rolling one up Your input is appreciated.

That's all well and good for the hydro folks......What about the soil folks you might ask?
The use of a silica supplement in soil IS a good idea (Potassium silicate NOT Sodium silicate as it's a "salt") .
The use of a silica will increase the availability of N in soil.
The use of silica will help balance the uptake of P. This is helpful to those who might try a high P&K supplement in bloom (some root stimulator's are high P too).
Helps the uptake of Zinc and competes for the uptake of Aluminum, Iron and Manganese.

Good one's are Dynagro's Pro-tekt and Mad Farmer's Silica.
Any Potassium Silicate will work,,,but these 2 are more cost effective.....

I would go with Dr Who here as far as the advice given, and just because it is in a magazine doesn't make it right, it is an opinion and often times opinions are shared, still doesn't make it right.

For new growers the best way to learn it to harvest in stages, start at the end of week 6 and take a branch or bud dry it and try it, same at end of week 7 and again at week eight etc.

Plants harvested early will give you a racy head high
plants harvested late will give you a couchlock high

best to find the happy place in the middle

me I wait till they are ripe, I never look at trics to decide that I go by senescence

Good advice and something I will need to start soon. I didn't get my LST into proper gear so there's a high and a low side to the plant growth, as you can see in the pic below taken a week or so ago... and yes, before anyone feels the need to mention it I know that little red LED rope light is probably doing shit all. I enjoy the ambiance of it though.

Well I voted for "harvest in stages" and was a little surprised to find I was the only one who has voted that way.

You see I have been checking my own grow today with the scope (estimate some 2 weeks to harvest) and I checked top colas vs. piddly little stuff at the bottom. I have about 90% clear trichs at the top and about 50% milky trichs at the bottom (is that normal?) so if I was to go by trichs I would not be harvesting the whole plant in 1 day, I would be doing it in stages.

But I don't go by trichs. Sure I check them but it's not the deciding factor. It's all of the following things:

1. General appearance of the plant
2. Appearance of the pistils (white vs. orange hairs)
3. Trichome development
4. and most importantly, how urgently do i need some weed to smoke lol

Anyway it's not my intention to hijack this thread and talk about myself...

Merry Jizzrain you are approaching harvest window very soon for sure. Make your own judgement and I wish you the best of luck and a great harvest.

Not highjacking - adding input! I had noticed the same thing too, where the piddly buds in between the valleys of big bud spears looked like they had more red hairs and cloudier trichs than the main buds.

Silica is found in most all soils, but I am a soil less grower, I use sunshine mix #4 in a 50/50 mix with hydrotron (calcined clay gives off sulfur much the same way dolomite gives off Mag) remembering that sulfur is the magic secret for great MJ

Silica also helps the plants immune system for fighting disease and beefs up the stem structure.

I personally, at 45 years old, am glad of this, I personally, do not know everything there is to know about marijuana, though I've seriously studied this plant, for 25-30 years.

When people like weedenhanced come along, they offer me the opportunity to review things that I already know, and ENHANCE knowledge that I've come to learn or experience over the decades. Instead of looking at noobs as the enemy, try to look at them from this point of view. It is the idea behind the student teaching the teacher.

I can learn all the theories from others I can read and read .thats solid knowledge if u ask me I learn what I need all resources r there iam 31 and u can find info to any problem about growing weed on the internet I dont just read any one persons take on things I read many and come to my own conclusion I watch hundreds of utube videos and take from them the info I need to applie to my grows my last grow was a scrog my first and iam proud to say I grew it like a pro and it was the first time id given it a very good long cure

To u older growers this sounds maybe rude but all u guys have learned the hard way us newer growers have all your experience at our finger tips u just need to look hard enough on the net to find it and apply it a trademen like fashion the info today is unlimited

Holy smokes! What kind (name, lineage, etc) of plant are you growing? Or is your growing method that brings such early loveliness to your plant? Probably both, eh? I'm kind of glad my plant didn't look so nice so soon. It would have made the waiting that much harder
