humidity is a bitch, HELP plz

So its my first time growing. i grew 2 plants out and harvested the first one about 5 days ago. I let it hang for 3 days, then placed it in jar for curing. I bought two rh meters and they are both saying the Rh in the jars after 24 hours is 40%. Am i missing something? the stems are still bendy.. not brittle.

I got ~6 ounces off my first plant ever, was really excited before this..any imput. thanks

take it out of the jar and dry it . never dry it in a jar. only cure it in a jar google how to cure . take it out of jar dry it on paper towels or a screen . it will take 2 to 7 days to dry depending on your set up. best options is a dry net about 40 bucks .

oh, i thought the hang dry was enough for 3 days. seemed really dry on outside. Like about as dry as it is when i get it to smoke at dispens. the stems were still bendy so i thought it was about time to cure. you are saying it is to wet to be in the jars? wouldnt that make the RH in the meter skyrocket rather than sit at 40%

for me drying is always a 7 day thing .............sometimes 8 or 9
like the guy said a dry net this is not really a 38" works out prefect
with that u justt need a simple 3x3x6 tent cheap one works
add in a simple 4 inch booster fan with a carbon filter for stink controll
and a dehumidifier for those day the outside is too high and a humidifier for the days when is not enough
the very last part is just add any old fan that moves in the bottom (u can get 4 racks in there with this set up a smaller fan will allow 6 but odds are it can not move correctly ) u want the fan to move so the air current changes

just set this up someplace the tent will be on a passive intake when u close it the carbon filter will clean the air and dump it in the room no smell .........u have now controlled all the factors u need too for a safe dry and great weed temps/humidity/light/air flow

just use any old temp senor from a store u can plave it in the tent and check on it now and then or get one with wire for few more bucks leave it outside only open to add/empty the water out

humidity aim for 50% safe is 40-60% (u have to tweak the setings for your area to get it just shut tent walk away for 20 mins then check adjust untill it is where u want walk away for 7 days)
light with it sealed in the tent it is dark and this is great for drying does not allow photo reaction so reisin comes out more as it drys up

as for harvest just cut the branch off near the bottom buts leave like 2 3 inches to hold.........if u have branching off the branch cut those off then trim down some on main branch ............remove the fan leaves and what ever else u want but the more gone the better the air flow tho it is removing the water from the leaves and then the leaves suck more from the stem better taste more power to buds

after 7/8 days of that in 50% u take them out trim them down clip off the buds from the stems and branchs the last little bit of the water in the stems that u left on will soak into the flower ..........this is the cure then u just open the jars once every 2/3 days for the frist week then once a week for 3 weeks and u should have prefect cured buds.............but the buds that come out of the tent are smokable then just add in extra 0.5 0.7 to jars for water weight that will go way

yeah i read alot on drying and dry times but in the end most of the curing guides that were from the more reputable posters were saying that over drying is way bigger of an issue than underdrying. And that you should dry until the snap bends and cracks but doesnt snap, then its time to cure. After 3 days it seemed crispy and the brancers were getting quite dry. I am/was worried about ruining my harvest. in the guide " a perfect cure every time" stickied. it says that under 40% you are past its cure time. Wouldnt letting it dry further ruin any chance i have of salvaging this harvest.

Not trying to sound ignorant, just trying to understrand what is happening. The bud really seems smokable now, just doesnt have its nice potent smell.

i just post u something that u can repeat time after time and get the same extra thing ..............i am looking at opening a shop in my state when i can the method u are talking about leaves varibles ..............i did it that way my first couple times year later one of my buds sent someone to the doctors ..........the dry was not right so the cure got mold when was sealed away ........that was a 5 day line hang natural air in temp zone no light like tabacco drying

thank god no one but him sat on any of it for that long ............but it was only that batch

so justugh, even though the Rh is 40% when sealed for 24 hours. you still think the product is to wet? thats what i was strugging with. was worried it was somehow to dry for curing

RH in a JAR

how are u testing it are u opening it up and exposing to the air to test or did u make a lid with a metter tho the hole then seal that off so it is 100% air tight

this would alter reading when the lid is open the air is exchanged with the air outside so the real RH lvl is not coming up

i am honestly not 100% sure since i did not see the size of the stems/how much water was in them when u cut it or how much u left when u trimmed it up

rem the stems dry up....as in the part u cut it is the bottem and the bud is the top the buds up top pass it out to the air they suck up more from the stem then the lowest part drys up but the middle is still wet .........when u trim it the last of the water in there the stem u left to keep the bud intacted............that is what is used in the cure to make the brittle bud get some it back and then the stem is 100% dry

if u keep the air in the tent at 50% humidity the exchange rate of the water to the air is at that prefect lvl they do not dry to fast or to slow

to fast u get this hay smell.........so slow it smells like wet leaves ...........around day 5 the smell goes weaker then u clip on day 7 when they get in the jars they are stinky again

im using air tight mason jar, that i can read through. Really wont go up past 40%. If my buds were really wet inside, wouldnt the RH in the jar go up quickly. it says after 24 hours the reading is accurate. it went from 35% to 40%. over the first 24 hours. an dhasnt moved since.

no i was using two diffent 10$ analogue ones from reptile tanks. Saw some guy using them on youtube suggest them

Don't think the analogue ones work in jars bud. I looked into it and never bothered. I think when I do get a small hygrometer for jars, it will be a caliber 3 or something like that as there highly recommended for curing. There 25 a pop where I am and at the time and even now I can't afford it, as I'm not selling any of my crop!
Just do what folk have done for years and look,see,feel- gut in stinks are best if uve read enough into it.

the way i test my stuff

before u jar anything up ..........u take some and grind it up
1 the weed should stay a light color (not turn dark green after 20/40 mins)
2 the stem should almost completely break when grind (if little is bendy it will stay up top in the grinder with the teeth)

that is my test .........if it does not turn a darker color i know the leaves and stem had very little water in them
the stem that did stay in the grinder means little water is left so that briittlness will go away some

this is your problem, analogue meters are inaccurate and not easy to adjust, I could go on with huge details on how to calibrate and adjust but honestly the digital hygrometers are superior.
you can go to your local cigar shop, they will have a wide variety. Get one with a magnet back that's small enough to fit on the metal lid of the mason jar

Your problem is going to be mold if you don't get those buds dry soon, if nothing else go by feel
can you break up a bud and roll a smokable joint?
if not it's way too wet, if yes, you are in the ballpark
